Ash Wednesday & Lent

Today is Ash Wednesday, which has been celebrated by many of our Christian friends since circa 1000 CE. Ash is smeared in a cross pattern on the forehead as a reminder that life is fleeting (see Genesis 3:9) and that all of us are in need of repentance (see Job 42:5-6).

This kicks off the six weeks of Lent (a time for fasting, prayer, and charitable giving) and other holidays that culminate with Easter Sunday.

What if we put this kind of thought and sacrifice into our own Easter preparations? What reawakening or realizations might you and I experience?
