Passover & Cultural Appropriation (+ ANNOUNCEMENT)

Every year when Passover rolls around, I wrestle with the question of whether or not it is cultural appropriation for a Christian to host a Passover Seder. I've explored the issue at length: conversations with a Jewish professor I know as well as leaders from various Christian faiths, studying various interpretations of the Mishnah (collections of the Jewish oral law) concerning Passover, and reading opinions of rabbis from various movements of Judaism.

Essentially, the answer you get depends on who you talk to, especially as you cross from one movement to another (Reform Judaism, for example, is much more supportive of it than Orthodox). So each of us has to do the work to get informed and then make our individual choice.

If this is something you've been concerned about, perhaps the following information will help you make the right decision for you and your family. I tried to keep it as unbiased as possible. And don't miss out on the announcement at the end!

Alright, now here's the big announcement! (Well, it's big for me because it's gonna be a *ton* of work, but maybe it won't be as momentous in your eyes...)
